The iconic Drag Queens of the Queen City mural, painted in 2016 in Plaza Midwood to honor legendary queen Brandy Alexander, has been erased. Quietly. Without warning. Covered in beige paint. A bold and historic symbol of LGBTQ+ visibility in Charlotte has been wiped from existence—and with it, a vital piece of our queer story.
Get ready to slay the day with “YASSS, Queen City!” Drag Queen Funny Bus Tour. This fabulous 90-minute adventure takes you through the Queen City’s iconic neighborhoods and serves up a side of fabulous “herstory,” all guided by the legendary drag queen and comedian Buff Faye. It’s part tour, part drag show, and ALL sass!

Shane Mendez Windmeyer (aka Buff Faye) is a Native Indigenous business owner part of the Iowa Tribe of KS & NE. The Iowa Tribe (Ioway Indians) is best known today as the tribe for whom the state of Iowa was named. By the time white settlers first entered Iowa in the mid 1800s, the Ioway Indians moved their villages into northern Missouri, due to pressure and incessant warfare in Iowa between the Sioux in the northern and western parts of the state and the Sauk and Meskwaki in the southern and eastern parts of the state. Archaeologists call the sites of the ancestral Ioway Oneota, after one the names for the Upper Iowa River, where such sites were first located. Other closely related tribes such as Otoe, Missouri, Winnebago, and Omaha also participated in the Oneota culture.
